To The Shores Of Lake Placid
An Interesting Indie Gem

Released in February 1982, “To The Shores of Lake Placid” is a compilation album assembled by Bill Drummond (Big In Japan and KLF) and Mick Houghton (author and KLF marketing man).
The music was taken from a play of the same name which ran from August 1978 to February 1981 in Liverpool. The album includes an insert with photos of the bands.
It was produced by Zoo Records, founded in 1978 by Bill Drummond (The KLF) and David Balfe (Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen). Zoo Records also signed other Liverpool based Indie bands.
Balfe went on to fund Food Records where he signed Jesus Jones (Right Here Right Now) and directed Blur’s first two videos, “She’s So High” and “There’s No Other Way”. He was also instrumental in persuading them to change their name from Seymour to Blur in 1989.
In 1994, Balfe sold the Food label to EMI and retired with his family to a country estate, thus inspiring Damon Albarn to write Blur’s first UK No. 1 “Country House”.
As well as Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen and Big In Japan the album includes tracks by: Dalek (I Love You), The Turquoise Swimming Pools, Whopper, Those Naughty Lumps and Lori & The Chameleons.
If you’re in to early Indie music, this album would be a great addition to your collection!
