Happy 80th Birthday to Helen Shapiro

No.1 at 14 and had The Beatles as her support group ... How's your musical career going?!

Photo Helen Shapiro

Born in September 1946 and brought up in the East End of London, Helen played the ukulele in her school band at the age of 9, with fellow band member Mark Feld (aka Marc Bolan).

In 1961, at the age of 14, her first single “Please Don’t Treat Me Like A Child” entered the Charts and in the same year, she shot to No.1 with “You Don’t Know” and, probably her best known song, “Walkin’ Back To Happiness”.

Helen continued touring, and in 1963 she headlined a tour with an up and coming band named The Beatles, who were her support act!

Helen went on to have a successful musical theatre, jazz and acting career.

Check out our other new-in 60’s EPs by The Beatles, The Stones, Gerry & The Pacemakers, and two rare ones by The Kinks and Manfred Mann.
